Into a Dream (夢の中へ Yume no Naka e) is a 2005 Japanese film written and directed by Sion Sono.
Plot[]
Taeko is living with a talentless actor named Mutsugoro Suzuki. The two had previously acted in the same theater troupe, but Taeko decided to quit when she fell in love with him. Unfortunately he won't take the same step, and after 10 years of struggling Taeko finally gets fed up with him putting his failing career ahead of their life together. Meanwhile Mutsugoro is having an affair with Ranko, a girl from another theater troupe who, in turn, is in a relationship with her troupe's leader Machida.
One day Mutsugoro tells his friend Keiji that he thinks he has a sexually-transmitted disease, but he's not quite sure which girl gave it to him. When he notices another man from Ranko's troupe in the bathroom having pain while urinating he decides the disease must have originated from her. However, when he accuses her she gets enraged and throws him out of the room. When he returns home he sees Taeko is in the process of packing her things and leaving him. He eventually passes out and has a series of strange dreams in which he's leading a completely different life in each of them. When he finally awakes he's left with the overwhelming feeling that he hates the life he's led up to this point and wants to change.
