The Sea Is Watching (海は見ていた Umi wa Miteita), aka The Sea Watches is a 2002 Japanese film directed by Kei Kumai. The screenplay for the film was the last one written by the late Akira Kurosawa.
Plot[]
In the 19th century a young samurai ducks into a brothel after an illegal fight and a young prostitute helps him evade the authorities. When he befriends her and tells her she can remake herself despite her profession she comes to believe he loves and will marry her. The other prostitutes unite to support her in her expected happiness. Though things don't turn out as she expected, in the midst of a fierce storm and flood love saves the young woman from a watery grave.
