Shintarō Katsu as Zatoichi

Zatoichi (座頭市, Zatoichi) is a popular fictional Japanese character that has been depicted in a total of 27 movies and a television series that ran for 100 episodes between 1974 and 1979. The role was played by Shintarō Katsu exclusively until his death in 1997. Takeshi Kitano took over the role in the 2003 film which he also wrote and directed. In 2008, Haruka Ayase became the first female version of the character in Fumihiko Sori's Ichi.
